FemLINKPacific Turns 26 Today!!

This year, femLINKpacific proudly celebrates its 26th birthday, a milestone that reflects more than two decades of unwavering commitment to amplifying the voices of women, youth, and marginalized communities across Fiji and the Pacific. Founded in 2000, the organization has grown from a grassroots initiative into a pioneering feminist media network, championing inclusive communication and community radio as tools for empowerment and social change.

Over the years, femLINKpacific has become a trusted platform for women leaders, rural communities, and peacebuilders to share their stories and advocate for gender equality. Its flagship initiative, Women’s Weather Watch, has bridged the gap between meteorological services and community preparedness, ensuring that women’s perspectives are central in disaster response and climate resilience. This innovative approach has not only saved lives but also strengthened the role of women in decision‑making during times of crisis.

The organization’s journey has been marked by creativity and resilience. From producing radio programs and digital campaigns to convening dialogues on peace and security, femLINKpacific has consistently highlighted the importance of feminist media in shaping public discourse. Its work has inspired a new generation of Pacific women to embrace leadership roles, while also fostering intergenerational dialogue that preserves cultural wisdom and adapts it to modern advocacy.

As femLINKpacific enters its 26th year, the focus remains on expanding partnerships and strengthening digital literacy to reach rural and maritime communities. By integrating analytics into its advocacy toolkit and embracing new technologies, the organization continues to evolve while staying true to its mission of inclusive, intersectional storytelling. This adaptability ensures that its message of solidarity and empowerment resonates across diverse platforms and audiences.

The celebration of femLINKpacific’s 26th birthday is not just a reflection on past achievements, but a call to action for the future. It is a reminder that feminist media is vital in building societies where every voice matters. As the organization looks ahead, it reaffirms its commitment to amplifying grassroots leadership, advancing gender equality, and ensuring that Pacific women remain at the heart of transformative change.

Birthday Message

26 Years of Amplifying Women's Voices and Advancing Change

For 26 years, femLINKpacific has remained committed to amplifying women’s voices, strengthening grassroot leadership, and creating spaces where women can speak, organize and influence decisions that affect their lives and communities. From our beginnings during a time of political crisis to today, our journey has been grounded in the belief that women’s stories, knowledge and leadership matter - from the mat to the policy table. Through community media, women’s networks, convenings, research and advocacy, femLINKpacific has continued to connect rural and marginalized women with wider conversations on peace, security, gender equality, climate justice and human rights.

As we celebrate 26 years, we honour the women, communities, partners, staff, volunteers and supporters who have carried this movement forward. The anniversary is not only a celebration of our history, but a reaffirmation of our commitment to building a more inclusive, peaceful and just Pacific where every woman and girl can participate, lead and be heard. We look ahead with renewed determination to strengthen feminist community media, nurture the next generation of women leaders, and ensure that grassroot voices continue to shape the decisions and policies that define our collective future. 26 years of listening, connecting, speaking out and creating change — and the journey continues.
